FOOTBALL IS BACK BABY!!!!!!!
With the weight of the last few months, it feels more important than ever that we have football right now. I know that a lot of people feel as though sports are unimportant or trivial, but they mean A LOT to a lot of people. I am more ready than ever to watch the ball soar into the air at 8:20 PM on Thursday night. I am ready to hold out hope for as long as possible that the Browns will make the playoffs. I’m ready to yell at my phone when the defense on my fantasy team finishes with -2 in a Monday night football game causing me to lose and actively ruining my entire week. I’m ready for every second of it.
One of my favorite parts about football is that we can sit here and speculate all we want, but anything can happen on the football field. You have one game a week to prove who you are as a team. Every minute counts. You never know who will be crushed under the pressure or who will rise to the occasion. Football tells stories so well, and I can’t wait to see what it will tell us this year (Hopefully not a psychological thriller for the Browns).
Here are my week one projections:
Texans @ Chiefs Pat Mahomes needs to prove that all that money they are paying him is worth it. Chiefs 35 Texans 20
Jets @ Bills Josh Allen has a lot to prove after a haunting loss to the Texans in the AFC wild card game last season. Bills 28 Jets 17
Packers @ Vikings Aaron Rodgers is another quarterback that has something to prove after questions arose as to why the Packers drafted a QB in the first round. With Love as the 3rd string QB, I don’t think Rodgers should be too concerned… yet. Packers 24 Vikings 21
Eagles @ Washington I have no choice but to pick the team that has an actual name and no recent sexual harrassment articles in the Washington Post. Eagles 27 Washington 10
Browns @ Ravens 9/28/19… The date that the Browns beat the Ravens 40-25 last season. If they did it one year ago, they can do it again. I might be the only person in the world to say this but Browns 24 Ravens 21
Colts @ Jaguars I have no feelings about this game whatsoever. Colts 31 Jaguars 10
Raiders @ Panthers The Panthers just extended Christian McCaffrey to make him the highest-paid running back in the NFL. That combined with the Raiders lack of talent on defense gives me my answer. Panthers 27 Raiders 17
Bears @ Lions There’s a lot of pressure on Trubisky (NEO native) to perform well this season, and sorry Bears fans, I don’t see it happening. Lions 24 Bears 14
Seahawks @ Falcons Probably going to be the most competitive game of the week offensively. Seahawks 34 Falcons 31
Dolphins @ Patriots All eyes are on the Patriots in a post-Tom Brady era. Even with the loss of TB12, I still think they pull out on top in this week one matchup Patriots 17 Dolphins 14
Chargers @ Bengals Every so often, a player comes along that you just want to see succeed no matter where they play. Joe Burrow is that guy. I will certainly be rooting for him. Chargers 21 Bengals 24
Cardinals @ 49ers San Francisco is one of many teams that had an injury-ridden summer. This is going to be a tough one. 49ers 27 Cardinals 21
Buccaneers @ Saints This game has so many fascinating story lines. Brees vs. Brady the classic veteran QB matchup. Gronk returns to play with his buddy Tom again. Tom Brady not wearing a Patriots jersey. This is gonna be good. Buccaneers 24 Saints 31
Cowboys @ Rams Dallas is still filled with so many offensive weapons. Under a new head coach with Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys have a lot to prove. Cowboys 27 Rams 17
Steelers @ Giants The return of Big Ben… Honestly, I’m just happy I don’t have to see Mason Rudolph on my television to start the season. Not that Big Ben is much better. There’s really no good option here. Giant 27 Steelers 24
Titans @ Broncos Nothing like a 10:20 PM Monday night football game. Sleep is overrated anyways. Broncos 21 Titans 27
Until next time… Go Browns
